Expectation Vs Reality

So let's get into it...

Expectation Vs Reality.
A very controversial topic that I'd like to dive into.

To expect is to dream as they say...

But the reality is, some jobs just cannot be done within a day, as much as people would like, it's just not possible, nor is it viable to even imagine.

Now, I've been to many jobs that have needed more than just a days work and I've had to draft in extra help just to complete it fully.

It's not only time consuming, but it's costly because my own profit can be eaten into as with many jobs, people are not prepared to pay for said work to be done to the standard it is needed to be at, so they end up hiring someone who is cheaper and does a shoddy job of it, so it has to be done twice. Which means less money for the customer to play with in the end and that can mean the job ends up being the same as it was when it was first looked at, or even worse because it's either grown out again or it's not been touched good enough so the job is not complete.

We can often underestimate the jobs that we believe to be easy, and a lot of the time whenever I go to quote a job, it is highly underestimated from the customers point of view. Now, I'm not saying that the customer is wrong, I'm saying that the cost and use of tools and everything I explained in my first blog entry has not been made into consideration.

I have done several jobs that have taken several days which has meant I have lost a lot of money. It becomes a learning curve and with being in business for my second year, I'm becoming a lot more savvy when it comes to pricing and my own pricing structure.

If we could see that larger jobs are in need of larger budgets and more time, then we would be able to expect a more realistic time and price point to make these jobs better for the customers and with better results at the end of it. I also feel that gardeners and groundsman are put under increasing pressure to complete a job, especially when there are unrealistic deadlines to complete a job.

⁉️ Question ⁉️

Are you realistic when it comes to having a gardener come to your property? Or do you apply the pressure and make an unrealistic deadline?

I'd like to know.
Because I am all about honesty and truth.

I am always straight up when it comes to quotation and a lot of the time, people more than likely decline because it's "too much" but would you rather the price be too much, or you have to pay twice to get the quality of work you desire?

Here is a version of expectation Vs Reality

What you desire is the amount of work that is put in to make it the way you'd like it to be. Don't confuse imagination with reality.
